Buffalo Signs Receiver; Shuffles Coaching Staff

Alvin Jennings signs letter of intent; several changes in duties of UB coaches

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo head football coach Craig Cirbus announced the signing of another recruit for the 2000 season and several assignment changes among his coaching staff today.

Alvin Jennings (Warren, OH/Warren Harding HS), a 6-2, 185-pound wide receiver has committed to Buffalo after offers from both Louisville and Akron. Jennings broke his ankle in his first game last fall but was being courted by Michigan, Syracuse, Indiana and Wake Forest after his junior season in which he was an All-Steel Valley Conference selection and an honorable mention All-State performer. That season he led the conference in punt and kickoff returns and scored six touchdowns.

He was also an All-Conference selection as a sophomore and earned three letters for the Raiders under head coach Gary Barber. He also earned three letters in basketball and was the MVP of the Ohio-Pennsylvania All-Star basketball game last weekend and an honorable mention All-State selection.

"I chose Buffalo because the people I met and the campus were really nice," said Jennings. "I also made a lot of friends with the players on my visit and that was a big factor in my decision."

Jennings will join Warren G. Harding teammate Marcus Clarett at Buffalo this fall.

Cirbus also announced that several assignments have changed within the coaching staff.

On the offensive side of the ball, offensive coordinator Charlie Donnor, who has worked with the line the past four years, will work with the quarterbacks this season. Tony Policare, who has coached the quarterbacks in the past, switches to wide receiver and Chris Wiesehan moves from wide receivers coach to the offensive line. Dennis Greene continues to work with the running backs while Tony Latona again works with the UB tight ends.

Defensively, Tom Jones, who had worked with the defensive line, will work with UB's safeties and Matt Rhule takes over the defensive line duties. Other positions remain the same on defense with Joe Reich (defensive coordinator) handling the inside linebackers, Rashaan Jordan the outside linebackers and Mike Gebbia working with the cornerbacks.

"Having worked together now for a few years allows us to recognize and better capitalize on every coach's strengths and positions us to more ably confront the challenges of competing at the Division I-A level within the Mid-American Conference," said Cirbus.
