Spring Football Journal With Dane Robinson Week 5: The end…well until August anyway
So anyway, as far as the game itself we all went out there and had a lot of fun…well for the first half anyways, after that you could just see we were tired and it was time to go home. But we really did just go out there and have fun, especially with fans out there to watch us. And with the stadium not even near what it will look like come our first chance to perform in front of our fans when the season comes around, you still got that same feeling…that knot in the top of your stomach and anxiousness to put on a show for the fans that came out there that day. You could tell we enjoyed ourselves, though, from our excessive celebrations to the laughter and smiles on our faces as we either dropped or batted a ball down or had a long run with a little pop from us on defense. It was good time and we got better even though there was a little dispute on how the White Team (Offense) won the game. Just because there was still at least 2:00 left and it was 3rd and long for the offense, and the defense had the offense on their heels and a sack or a tackle for loss or a turnover would have clearly given us enough points in the end to have beaten the offense. But somehow, someway the game was called right before this 3rd and long play could be run and with the clock still showing time left to play…I don’t know sounds kind of suspect to me. I think there should be a definite asterisk put at the end of the score if you ask me. ☺ Even though the crowd on Saturday was on a smaller scale that didn’t stop any of us from acting like it was a sold out game. From the decorative tape jobs, the half long/half short sleeve shirts, and arm and wrist bands galore…I think our team confuses the motto “You look good, you play good” as our mission statement. Oh while we’re on the subject of looking good…Warde (Manuel) I know we got some money in the budget somewhere for some black uniforms, just tops we don’t need black pants, white numbering and lettering with a blue outline will do just fine, you don’t have to get back to me right away you could surprise us during the season or something…thanks in advance!! Now with the book closed on Spring Ball 2009 all roads now lead to the season and we will all take some time off to relax a little bit, finish school, and enjoy the upcoming summer. But as the summer makes its way in we will also be running and lifting, throwing and catching, studying formations and defenses all with the intent of priming ourselves for another championship run to Detroit, which we all have come to realize is a reality and not just a wish or a dream or something to hope for. We’ll come back in August for fall camp, back into the heat and the soreness of two-a-days and the……well let me just stop there because I’m just psyching myself out now. The new freshmen will come on to this team and act like they need to be the big dog in prison yard and won’t say anything to anybody for the first three days. Others will come out thinking that all the training they did beforehand has made them more than ready for college football…until the first day when all of that goes out the window. Then the rest will just fall in line and realize that they don’t know anything yet and will learn from the older guys as time goes on. And trust me freshmen that may be reading this when I say…you…do…NOT…know…ANYTHING! We all had to start at the same very beginning point you are about to be at and once we all came to this realization we were a lot better for it. But enough of that I’ll get back to you guys in August. Lastly, I want to thank everybody that enjoyed reading my thoughts, feelings, and ideas on our team throughout this spring. Paul Vecchio has really given me a unique opportunity to share and give you guys an inside look of what goes down on this team and how I make sense of it all. Thank you to all my teammates for your added support as well. “How did you get a blog?” “What are you going to write in your blog this week Dane?” Never-ending questions from all my teammates. Oh and thanks Jesse for making my blogs sound like a narration to an NFL Films show or something. But really I can’t wait to hopefully share insight again with everyone come this fall camp and upcoming season. Thank you to everybody again!!!
