Spring Football Notes: Week 2
Ernest Jackson | BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo football team finished its eighth practice of the spring session on Monday afternoon at UB Stadium. After the workout, head coach Turner Gill took a few moments to talk about the progress of his team during spring drills.
On week two’s practices:
I think the intensity and concentration has been good and it hasn’t slacked off at all.
We have been doing some good things on both sides of the ball.
On the play of the defense:
I think the defense is coming along pretty good. We are definitely further along than we were last year and they have definitely shown some improvement.
On players that have stood out in the second week of practice:
Trevor Scott (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) continues to stand out. He has been playing very well. Alex Pierre (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) has made some nice plays for us. I like what Jesse Rack (Maspeth, NY/Christ the King) has been doing. He has stepped up and made some plays for us.
On coach Barrett’s influence on UB’s quarterbacks:
He has done a nice job helping the quarterbacks fine tune their mechanics. I think he is developing a nice relationship with the quarterbacks and they are developing a nice relationship with him. Things are going well with the quarterback situation.
On the play of the linebackers and who may step up to fill the shoes of the two departed starters:
I think it still early and we have some work to do in that area. All of our linebackers are doing some good things, but we are still trying to develop and find those guys at this time.
On the battle at the wide receiver position:
Unfortunately, Terrance Breaux (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) has been hobbled with a little bit of an injury. Ernest Jackson (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) is a guy who has stepped out there and done some good things. Brett Hamlin (Jupiter, FL/William T. Dwyer) is a steady guy who does a great job. Cade Pittman (North Platte, NE/North Platte) has done a good job of coming in and learning our offense.
