Gill Announces Three More To Recruiting Class

Lewis Hird, Sherrod Lott and Bruno Lapointe join inaugural class

BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo head football coach Turner Gill added three more players to his first recruiting class, announcing that Lewis Hird (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus), Sherrod Lott (Plant City, FL/Plant City) and Bruno Lapointe (Quebec, Canada/Champlain Cegep) will be joining the Bulls for the 2006 season. With the addition of these three student-athletes, Gill now has 18 players in his inaugural class.

Hird is an offensive lineman out of Bronx, NY. He is a three-year starter and two-year captain for head coach David Daiz at Christopher Columbus High School. Hird was elected to play in the Governor's Bowl this summer (New York vs. New Jersey) and was also an All-Borough selection. Hird was also a member of his high school track and field team, where he competes in the shot put.

"Lewis is a very athletic and aggressive offensive lineman," said Gill. "Another great asset that he possesses is his outstanding pulling ability."

Lott joins the Bulls as a cornerback from Plant City, FL. As a four-year letterwinner at Plant City High School, Lott played both cornerback and wide receiver for the Raiders. As a senior, Lott recorded eight interceptions and 46 tackles and was a second team All-County selection in the football-rich Tampa, FL area.

"Sherrod is a very physical player and a phenomenal competitor," said Gill. "He will raise the level of play of all his teammates around him."

Lapointe is a 6-5, 255-pound, defensive end from Lennoxville, Quebec. He served as captain of his team for one season and was also a hurdler on the high school track and field team. Lapointe was named to the Cegep AAA all-star squad last season.

"Bruno has the size and strength to hold the edge versus the run and the speed to rush the quarterback against the pass," said Gill. "He is a very physical player and plays with great effort on every play."

The 2006 Buffalo recruiting class has been ranked fourth in the MAC by Rivals.com., just the second time since 1999 that Buffalo has been ranked in the top five.
