Hofher Adds Five To Football StaffBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo head football coach Jim Hofher has announced that five coaches have joined his staff. Andy Rondeau (assistant defensive coordinator/safeties), Scott Pethtel (special teams coordinator/inside linebackers), Allen Mogridge (running backs), Ryan Groneman (assistant strength and conditioning) and Dan Lindsay (graduate assistant) have joined Buffalo's football staff. In addition, Hofher announced that Tom Jones, who will continue to coach the defensive line, has been promoted to defensive coordinator, that Antonio Goss will move from linebackers to cornerbacks, that offensive line coach Roy Istvan will assume offensive co-coordinator duties, and that Doug Socha (wide receivers) will handle recruiting coordinator duties. Remaining on the staff in their current assignments are Rob Best (quarterbacks), Andrew Dees (tight ends) and Cheyenne Pietri (head strength and conditioning coach). Rondeau comes to Buffalo from the University of Tennessee at Martin where he served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach last season. Prior to that, Rondeau had spent six seasons at North Dakota State as defensive backs coach. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Northeastern University (1991-94) before moving on to the University of Pittsburgh as a graduate assistant. He received his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1991. Pethtel has 28 years of coaching experience, including 14 seasons at Mid-American Conference rival Ball State. At Ball State, Pethtel was a part of three MAC championship teams while coaching outside linebackers, defensive line, tackles and tight ends and serving as special teams coordinator from 1989-2003. He spent last season on Rick Minter's staff at Cincinnati, serving as recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach. Pethtel also spent ten years (1979-89) at his alma mater, Adrian College in Michigan, serving seven years as defensive coordinator. Mogridge, meanwhile, has rejoined the Bulls' staff (after serving as a graduate assistant for the 2001 and 2002 seasons) after spending one season at Western Carolina. The former North Carolina standout coached defensive ends and was the recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina last season. Mogridge was a four-year letterman for the Tar Heels and played under coach Hofher while at UNC. Groneman comes to Buffalo from Forest Grove (OR) HS, his hometown, where he spent three seasons as offensive line coach (2001-03). The Oregon native played college football at Boise State, earning his degree in Social Science in 2000. Lindsay was a three-year letterwinner for the Bulls (2000-02) who hails from Henrietta, NY. "We're proud to announce the hirings of five new coaches and the realignment of current coaches
to really give us what I believe is an outstanding group of men coaching college football at UB," said Hofher.
"We look forward with great anticipation to the 2004 season." |
