Bulls add Pittsburgh and Army for '08; finalize deals with UConn and Central Florida

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo has finished its 2008 football schedule with the addition of Pittsburgh of the BIG EAST and a home date with Army. Previously, Buffalo had reached agreements with the University of Texas-El Paso and Big XII North Champion Missouri for the 2008 season.

In addition, Buffalo has also signed a four-year agreement with Connecticut of the BIG EAST to play the Huskies in a home-and-home series beginning in 2010 as well as a two-game series with the University of Central Florida (UCF) of Conference USA.

Buffalo has signed a four-year home-and-home agreement with Pittsburgh, starting in 2008. Buffalo will begin the series when they travel to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on September 6, 2008 for the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Pitt will travel to UB Stadium on September 12, 2009, while the series will conclude with games in 2011 and 2012.

The Bulls will host the Army Black Knights for the first time in school history on October 18, 2008 in the first of two meetings between the schools. The two teams last played at Army in 2001, with Buffalo prevailing by a 26-19 final. Army won the first meeting, at historic Michie Stadium on the West Point campus, by a 37-0 score in 1960.

The Bulls will open the 2008 season by hosting UTEP on Thursday night, August 28 at UB Stadium. It will also be the first-ever meeting between the Bulls and the Miners. Buffalo will open the 2009 season in El Paso.

The meeting with Missouri is a one-game agreement that will see Buffalo travel to a Big XII opponent for the first time since a game at Iowa State in 1968. Buffalo hosted Big XII conference member Baylor at UB Stadium this past fall. The Tigers are coming off a season that saw them advance to the Big XII championship and hold a No. 1 ranking at the conclusion of the regular season.

“One of the goals that Warde (Manuel) and I have had is to get to a point where we can have six home games and I'm very happy that we've achieved that for the 2008 season,” said head coach Turner Gill, the 2007 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year. “Getting Pittsburgh and Army on our schedule are terrific additions. They make sense for us geographically and have tremendous football traditions. We look forward to the opportunity to play them.”

The Bulls will begin the UConn series with a game in Connecticut on Sept. 25, 2010. The teams will play again in the Nutmeg State in 2012, while the Huskies will come to Buffalo for games in 2011 and 2013.

The Bulls will open their series against UCF on Sept. 26, 2009 in Orlando, while the Golden Knights will return the game at UB Stadium on Sept. 18, 2010.

Buffalo's Mid-American Conference schedule will be released at a later date. Buffalo will host a MAC opponent to be announced during Homecoming weekend on October 4.
