UB Football Signs Two Mid-Year Transfers

Luke Johnson and Quenzell Smith bring increased size to offensive line

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo head football coach Jim Hofher has announced that a pair of players have signed letters of intent with the Bulls as mid-year transfers.

Offensive linemen Lucas Johnson (Wayzata, MN/Bakersfield Junior College) and Quenzell Smith (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) have enrolled at Buffalo and will be eligible for spring football sessions.

Johnson, a 6-7, 300-pound offensive tackle, spent the past two seasons at Bakersfield Junior College, starting last year. The native of Minnesota was an All-Conference selection at Wayzata HS outside Minneapolis, earning three letters for the Trojans. He helped his team to a 19-4 record in his final two seasons and a pair of conference titles. As a senior, he was selected by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune as one of the top ten Division I recruits in the state.

"We're very pleased that Luke has chosen to attend UB," said Hofher. "We think he'll add tremendously and immediately to competition on the offensive line."

Smith, a 6-5, 360-pound lineman, transferred to Buffalo from Canisius College after the school dropped football this fall. Smith did not play at Canisius as a freshman and has four years of eligibility remaining.

"We're excited that Quenzel is joining us," said Hofher. "He was a very good player in high school and obviously has tremendous size."
