Annual Blue and White Spring Scrimmage

Haddad Leads Blue To 52-31 Win Over White
Junior wide receiver scored five touchdowns in annual Blue-White spring scrimmage

BUFFALO, NY - Junior wide receiver Drew Haddad (Cleveland, OH/St. Ignatius) caught five touchdown passes to lead the Blue (offense) to a 52-31 win over the White (defense) at UB Stadium in the annual Blue-White spring scrimmage.

Haddad had touchdown receptions of 8, 49, 40, 42 and 62 yards all from quarterback Chad Salisbury (Newell, PA/Frazier HS) reprising a familiar combination from last season. Haddad broke the single season receiving record at UB last fall by catching 67 passes for 1,058 yards while Salisbury threw for 2,889 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Salisbury finished the game 14-of-22 passing for 317 yards and the five TD strikes to Haddad with no interceptions. Sophomore Enrico Pierre (Montreal, Quebec/Vieux HS) added four catches for 96 yards and John Opfer (North Ridgeville, OH/N. Ridgeville HS) five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Billy Feldmaier (Birmingham, MI/ Seaholm HS) was 10-of-15 passing for 85 yards a touchdown.

On the ground, freshman David Schmidli (Wilson, NY/Wilson HS) led the Bulls with 70 yards on 10 carries while sophomore Marvin Brereton (Missisauga, Ontario/Clarkson) had 62 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively the Bulls were paced by senior linebacker Antonio Perry (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) with 14 tackles, including six solo stops. Sophomore strong safety Eric Pipkins (Pittsburgh, PA/Valley HS) added 10 tackles for the Bulls while sophomore Brad Tanton (Vestal, NY/Vestal HS) had seven tackles and 21/2 sacks. The Bulls had five sacks on the day.

The scrimmage concluded the spring practice session for the Bulls. The Bulls will open the 1998 season - their last as a Division I-AA program before heading to the Mid-American Conference - on Sept. 3 at the University of Maine.
