Men's and Women's teams sweep at first home meetTeam running was the name of the game on Saturday as UB's Men's harriers concentrated on unity and sharing the workload. The outcome of this strategy proved to be a successful perfect score 15-50 over the Niagara Purple Eagles. Upperclassmen Sam Burroughs, Pat Nolan, and Tony David ran as if joined by the hip. Frosh Chris Angier and John Fritts siezed the opportunity to be the remaining scorers by doggedly staying close to this lead pack. The time spread between Buffalo's first 5 runners was a mere 28 seconds. Immediately following UB's top 5, 7 more UB runners crossed the line completing this first week's wave of Blue.
On the women's side, the Lady Harriers were also perfect putting eight runners in front of Niagara's first. Again the result was a 15-50 victory. The team was lead by Junior Marie Macander and Freshman Lisa Luce as just one second separated the two. Junior Co-Captain Jennifer Folckemer followed close behind as all three women broke the school record on UB's home course. Rounding out the scorers were Junior Laura Folckemer and Junior Co-Captain Casey Spencer as both ran Personal Bests as well.
The competition steps up this coming weekend as Colgate, Syracuse, and Cornell visit Buffalo to challenge UB's harriers on Saturday at 1:00PM. |
