McKenna Takes 12th at IC4A Championships

The University at Buffalo men's cross country team finished the 2005 season at the IC4A Championships in Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls competed in the Championship Division of the IC4A meet, one of three separate divisions, and placed 17th of 20 scoring teams with 420 points. Duke won the team title with 98 points.

UB junior Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was UB's top finisher. McKenna finished 12th in a field of 174 runners in 25:24.8 for the five-mile course.

Two more UB runners finished within the top 100 on Saturday. Freshman Dan Healy (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) placed 93rd in 26:40.1 while junior Andy Leonard (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) was right behind Healy in 26:41.9 to finish 94th.

Junior Chris McClure (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) was 128th in 27:01.2. Sophomore Dan Giza (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) took 142nd place 27:21.0 to close out UB's top five scorers.

Senior Matt Moynihan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) finished in 149th position in 27:32.5 while junior David Welby (Somers, NY/Somers) was 156th in 27:42.9. Junior Paul Riley (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) was UB's final runner to cross the finish line, taking 166th place in 28:12.9.

Leonard, Jezorski Named to Academic All-MAC Team

Two UB cross country athletes were among 28 named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad. Junior Andy Leonard (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) was named to the 11-member men's team while senior Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was among 17 athletes to be named to the women's team. Academic All-MAC recipients must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and appeared in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Koeppel Shines at USATF Cross Country Meet

Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) made a big impact at the USA Track and Field's National Club Cross Country Championships in Rochester on Saturday. Koeppel, racing unattached, ran the 6K course in 21:29 to place 21st overall in a field of 203 of the country's top open runners. Koeppel completed her UB eligibility in cross country and indoor track last season, but will be eligible for the outdoor track season this spring. Former University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh All-American Elizabeth Woodworth won the individual race as an unattached entrant in 20:29. California-based See Jane Run won the team title with 86 points. Former UB standout Christina Keck finished 109th overall, and was the 78th scorer, crossing the finish line in 22:56. Keck represented the host Genesee Valley squad.
