BRONX, NY - University at Buffalo women's cross country runner Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) earned All-Northeast honors for the second consecutive season at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

In the team competitions, UB's women placed in a tie for ninth with New Hampshire. Both squads scored 257 total points in the 32-team field. Team champion Providence (54) and runner-up Columbia (67) scored automatic bids to the upcoming NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, IN. In the men's meet, which consisted of 34 scoring teams, UB placed 22nd with 648 points. Providence (51) and Iona (56) earned the automatic bids for first and second place.

Koeppel again led the UB women on Saturday as she scored a ninth place individual finish completing the 6K course in 20:59.7, among a field of 230 runners. The time was nearly a full minute better than her 21st-place finish of from a year ago. The top 25 finishers in both the men's and women's races earn All-Northeast honors.

UB's Kelli O'Brien (Clifton Springs, NY/Manchester-Shortsville) finished 38th in 22:13.6 while Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) finished in 51st place overall with a clocking of 22:30.7.

In the men's meet, UB's top finisher was Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), placing 90th overall in a field of 233 runners. He clocked a 33:10.2 for the 10K course. It was the first time this season that the men's squad had raced on a 10K course.

John Flor (Albion, NY/Albion) finished 114th in 33:33.3 while Ben Cady (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) took 131st place in 33:56.8.

The ninth-place finish by the UB women's squad was the first top-10 finish by a Bulls team at the Northeast Regionals since the UB women finished ninth at the 1997 meet. The Bulls will now wait to see if Koeppel earns an at-large berth in the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships. The determination is based on how teams and individuals fare at the eight other regional championship meets held this weekend.
