Koeppel, Beatty Named to Cross Country Academic All-MAC TeamsBUFFALO, NY - Two University at Buffalo student-athletes have been named to the 2003 cross country Academic All-Mid-American Conference teams, the league has announced. UB men's cross country runner Joel Beatty (Holley, NY/Holley) and women's runner Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) were selected to their respective teams as voted on by faculty athletic representitives at MAC institutions. The men's team honored six student-athletes, while the women's team included seven student-athletes due to a tie in the voting.
UB tied for third with two athletes among the 13 named to the league's All-Academic squads. Central Michigan also placed a pair of women's runners, while Miami and Akron led the way with three honorees apiece. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. UB is back in action this Saturday when it travels to the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet to be
held in Boston's Franklin Park. |
