Slick Earns NCAA Invite

UB cross country runner becomes first to compete at Division I Championships

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo cross country runner Jerimie Slick (Rochester, NY/Greece-Olympia) has been selected as an at-large qualifier for next week's NCAA Division I National Championship race. The 10-kilometer race will be held Monday, November 19 at Furman University in Greenville, SC.

"He has a tremendous amount of talent and potential," said distance coach Vicki Mitchell. "He's thrilled to have qualified, it's a huge honor."

Slick qualified for the national championships with his strong performance at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet in Boston on Saturday. He finished eighth in a field of 249 runners completing the 10-kilometer course in 30:15.30. Additionally, Slick earned first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors at the MAC Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Oct. 27, finishing sixth in 25:21.9 along the eight-kilometer course, his top time of the season at the distance.

"He ran a great race at the conference meet," said Mitchell. "The last two races, he's gone out stronger and with the lead pack, which he is capable of doing."

Slick becomes the first University at Buffalo cross country athlete to qualify for the Division I Championships and could become the standard bearer for UB cross country in the future.

"We are starting to see what our teams are capable of doing," said Mitchell. "He's setting the trend for the future."

Official results will be available following the race on the official NCAA championships website (www.ncaachampionships.com) or from the Furman University website (www.furmanpaladins.com).
