UB Concludes Cross Country Seasons

The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country squads completed their 2000 seasons Saturday at the NCAA Northeast Cross Country Regional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

The Bulls' women finished 15th in a 36-team field with 482 points. The UB men placed 27th in the 34-team competition with 747 points. Boston College won the women's title with 47 points while Providence took the men's crown with 27 points.

UB's women were led by Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) who finished 81st individually out of 229 runners in 22:37.5. Eileen Rose (Latham, NY/Shaker) was 88th in 22:47.1 and Danielle Morrell (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) took 94th in 23:02.4 to round out the top three Bulls' finishers. Boston College's Megan Guiney won the women's six kilometer competition in 20:26.1.

Also placing for the women's squad were Jessica Moldovan (Warren, PA/Warren Area) in 23:11.4 for 103rd place and Lisa Luce (Varysburg, NY/Attica) taking 127th in 23:30.8. Hollie Rhodes (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) finished 133rd in 23:38.3 and Christina Keck (Erie, PA/McDowell) placed 135th in 23:39.2.

For the men, Todd Ludden (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was the Bulls' top finisher in 33:48.2 along the 10 kilometer course. Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was 110th in 33:53.0. Providence's Keith Kelly won the race in 30:33.2.

Among the other finishers for the men's squad were Joel Beatty (Holley, NY/Holley) in 35:51.8 for 173rd place, Onile White (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) in 35:57.8 for 178th place and Jeff Czyz (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) in 36:26.7 for 189th place.

With the conclusion of the cross country schedule, the Bulls now prepare for the indoor track and field season beginning December 2 at the Colgate Invitational.

  • Men placed 14th of 36 teams, 436 points
  • Women placed 11th of 34 teams, 331 points

  • Men tied for first of 4 teams, 35 points
  • Women placed second of 4 teams, 46 points

    Oct. 28 at MAC Championships

  • Men placed 10th of 12 teams, 252 points
  • Women placed 11th 0f 13 teams, 265 points

    Nov. 11 at NCAA Northeast Regional
