BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference women's cross country squad, the league announced from its headquarters in Cleveland this afternoon. Veith is one of 15 women's runners to earn the league recognition.

Veith, a junior chemistry major with a 3.679 cumulative grade point average, was also named to the Academic All-MAC Cross Country team in 2006 and the 2007 Academic All-MAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field squads. She finished third at last weekend's MAC Championships in 17:48.6, earning All-MAC first team honors. In five cross country events this season, she set a personal-best 5K time of 17:45.47 to finish third at the Bowling Green Falcon Invitational on October 13. In the 2007 season, she has four top 10 finishes and in her only other meet, the 6K Paul Short Invitational, she placed 32nd of 317 entrants.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives. The total number of honorees is set for a specific sport or 33 percent of all nominees, whichever is greater.
