Slick Earns All-MAC As UB Takes SixthOXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo's men's and women's cross country teams raced in the Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday at Miami University's Western Campus Course. UB's men finished sixth in a 12-team field with 170 points, but just 10 points shy of fourth place. UB's women placed 12th in a 13-team race with 305 points. Central Michigan, ranked eighth nationally, edged out seventh-ranked Eastern Michigan for the men's team championship, 39-40. Toledo breezed past the women's field with 51 points to win the title.
Joining Slick across the finish line for the Bulls were senior Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) in 25:26.60 to place 31st, junior Joel Beatty (Holley, NY/Holley), in a season-best, 25:47.50 to take 41st place, and senior Todd Ludden (Hornell, NY/Hornell) in 25:49.10 for 44th place. Eastern Michigan's Gavin Thompson won the race in 23:50.20, defeating Central Michigan's Jake Flynn by 13 seconds.
UB's postseason meets continue on November 16 when the Bulls head to Van Cortlandt Park
in the Bronx for the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The race will also serve as the SUNY Centers
Championships with all four of New York's Division I SUNY institutions (Buffalo, Binghamton, Albany and
Stony Brook) expected to compete.
