Cross Country Completes Regular Season at Cornell Meet

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country teams completed their regular season in Ithaca at Cornell's Reif Memorial Invitational. There was no team scoring in the meet that also included Syracuse, Cortland State and Ithaca as well as the Bulls and the host Big Red. Due to torrential rains the night before, much of the racecourse was flooded prompting a modification of the course.

In the men's race, contested at five miles, UB's Andy Leonard (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) finished fifth in 27:28, behind four Cornell runners. Freshmen Jason Ayr (Westfield, MA/Westfield) and Scott Dickover (Middletown, NY/Middletown) also finished in the top 12. Ayr was eighth in a time of 27:36 while Dickover finished 12th in 27:52. Cornell's Jason Brown won the race in 26:55, one second ahead of teammate Dan Gorman (26:56), in the field of 37 runners.

In the women's 5K race, which featured a total of 40 runners, senior Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence) was UB's top finisher. Kohout finished 10th overall in 19:12, tying her season-best mark set at the Toledo Invitational on September 16. Jessica Schultz (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) and Karen Corey (Kingston, NY/Kingston) were UB's next two finishers. Schultz placed 15th in 19:31 while Corey crossed the finish line in 19:42 to place 19th overall. Syracuse's Amanda Hicks won the individual title in 18:20.

The Bulls used the race as a preparation to next weekend's hosting duties at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The competitions, the first time that UB has hosted the event, will be held Saturday, October 28 at Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island. The men's race is slated to begin at 11:00 am with the women's championship starting at 12:00 pm.??
