The meet was run in sustained winds of 20 miles per hour with gusts of up to 30 mph. Unattached runner Jerimie Slick won the men's 8 kilometer race in a time of 25:55.7. He was followed by three UB runners Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), Todd Ludden (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Tony David (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) who each were timed at 26:10.7. Waterloo's Debbie Buhlers blitzed the field to take the women's 5 kilometer race in 18:13.5 over a full minute ahead of the second place runner, teammate Kristie Henry. UB's Eileen Rose (Latham, NY/Shaker) and Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) placed third and fourth respectively in 19:30.5 and 19:39.8. Cornell runners then took the next seven spots ensuring the lowest score to win the team title. Both Bulls' squads are off next week. The teams are next in action at the Mid-American
Conference championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. on October 28. |
