Dan McKenna Wins MAC Award For Second Straight Week
BUFFALO, NY - For the second straight week, the University at Buffalo's Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was named the Mid-American Conference's Men's Runner of the Week. The league announced the award Tuesday in Cleveland. McKenna, a junior, won the individual title at the UB Open last Saturday and led the Bulls to the team title over seven other schools. McKenna, running in less than ideal weather conditions, finished the 8K course in 25:59.9, more than 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Mike Booth of Robert Morris. It was McKenna's second individual title this season. He also won the four-mile race at the season-opening Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron, OH. McKenna also earned the league's top honor the previous week after he finished 17th in a field of 299 to lead the Bulls at Lehigh University's Paul Short Invitational on October 1, setting a personal-best time of 24:24 and cutting 42 seconds off his previous best. In his four races this season, McKenna has compiled a pair of first-place finishes, a second-place showing and his 17th-place finish against a larger field at the Paul Short meet. UB's top cross country athletes travel to the Penn State National Open on Saturday, October
15, starting at 10:00 am. UB will also field a team at Saturday's Harry F. Anderson Invitational in Rochester.
