Bulls Roll to Titles at UB Open
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams rolled to the team titles of the UB Open on Saturday at Beaver Island State Park in Grand Island. UB's men placed five of the top seven runners to score an easy victory over seven other squads while the UB women did even better, with six of the top eight finishers to easily score the win against four visiting teams. UB's men scored 19 points to easily outdistance second-place Robert Morris with 68. Syracuse (80), Niagara (81), Tri-State (IN) (129), Erie CC (175), Alfred State (215) and Finger Lakes CC (224) rounded out the men's field. UB's women tallied 16 points with Niagara following at 52 points and Syracuse placing third with 64. Finger Lakes CC (116) and D'Youville (145) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Junior Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led the men's contingent finishing the 8K course in 25:59.9, more than 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Mike Booth of Robert Morris. A total of 74 runners completed the men's race. With an unattached runner finishing third, the reaminder of the Bulls' scorers took the fourth through seventh positions. Senior Andy Leonard (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) was fourth in 26:50.2. Sophomore Dan Giza (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) took fifth in 27:07.1. Junior Paul Riley (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) was sixth in 27:07.6 and senior Matt Moynihan (Rochester, NY/Penfield) rounded out the scoring with his seventh-place clocking of 27:24.3.
Following Jezorski were a pair of freshmen as Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) was second in 19:23.2 and Jessica O'Neill (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) was third in 19:43.0. Sophomore Aleksandra Bykowska (Pozan, Poland/Third High School in Poznan) was fourth for the Bulls in 19:47.1. Syracuse's Meghan Rowcliffe was fifth in 19:50.1 with UB's Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence) earning sixth place in 19:52.6 to round out UB's scoring. The Bulls will send separate squads to a pair of meets next weekend. UB's top runners return
to Pennsylvania to compete at the Penn State National Open. The Bulls competed two weeks ago at
the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational. UB's remaining runners will head to Rochester to compete in
the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College. |
