UB Men Take First at St. Francis MeetLORETTO, PA The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams were in action Satruday at the Red Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis College. The Bulls won the six-team men's competition with 27 points edging St. Francis with 32. The UB women (60) placed second to the host Red Flash (57) by three points in the seven-team field. Both squads got strong individual performances from their top runners. In the men's race, junior Todd Ludden (Hornell, NY/Hornell) placed second in 25:20.15. St. Francis' Michael Murray captured the individual title in 25:09.36. Four other UB men placed in the top ten in the eight kilometer race. Jerimie Slick (Greece, NY/Greece-Olympia) was fourth in 25:42.91 while Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) took fifth in 26:04.77. Joel Beatty (Holley, NY/Holley) finished seventh in 26:33.12 and Steve Strelick (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) rounded out UB's scoring with his ninth place finish in 26:51.88. Junior Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) placed second in the women's race with a clocking of 19:28.32 for five kilometers. Indiana University of Pennsylvania runner Sara Raschiatore won the race in 19:06.81. UB also got strong showings from Jessica Moldovan (Warren, PA/Warren Area) who took 12th in 20:36.85 and Christina Keck (Erie, PA/McDowell) who finished 13th in 20:44.29. Both squads return to the Keystone State for next weekend's Paul Short Invitational hosted
by Lehigh University. Racing begins at 9:30 am. |
