Bulls Compete at Meet of ChampionsBRONX, NY The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams finished in the middle of the pack in the stiffest competition of the season at the Iona Meet of Champions held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. UB's women raced to a 12th-place finish among 25 schools with 385 points while the men finished 14th in a 26-team field with 323 points. Host Iona, ranked 21st nationally, won the men's title with 54 points to edge second-place Dartmouth (56). Missouri (62) and Wake Forest (67) were the top women's finishers.
The women's race, contested at 6K, saw senior Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) pace the Bulls with a time of 22:46.8 to finish 38th among 263 entrants. Jessica Moldovan (Warren, PA/Warren Area) was UB's next finisher in 23:25.5 to finish 75th while Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) finished 100th in 23:43.4. Iona's Peter Riley (24:31.7) and Yale's Katie O'Neill (20:36.6) took individual honors in their respective races. The Bulls travel to Philadelphia for the LaSalle Invitational next Saturday. Race time is 3:00 pm. |
