BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo's men's and women's cross country teams saw their toughest competition of the season thus far in Saturday's Ninth Annual Br. The women's team scored 415 points to place 17th out of 18 scorers. Leading the way for the UB men along the hilly 8K course at Van Cortlandt Park was sophomore Andy Wigton (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) finishing 29th overall among 158 entrants. Wigton completed the course in 26:25.2, cutting his season-best time by more than 14 seconds. Joining Wigton across the finish line in 91st and 92nd places, respectively, were Ben Cady (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) and Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). Cady finished in 27:31.7 while McKenna broke the tape in 27:33.2. Iona's Joe McAlister won the individual title in 25:12.5.

In the women's meet, contested at 6K, UB's top finisher for the third consecutive meet was junior Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst). Koeppel finished in 22:31.1 to place 16th overall among a field of 148 runners. Koeppel in her two previous meets this season finished in the top ten in both races against much smaller fields. UB's next two finishers were Jennifer Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) in 97th in 24:22.1 and Megan Housel (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) in 98th at 24:22.4. Princeton runners Emily Kroshus (21:32.3) and Cack Ferrell (21:41.0) were the top two finishers in the meet.

The Bulls will see another large field next weekend when they head to Bethlehem, PA for next week's Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University. First race is slated for 9:00 am.
