Bulls Finish in Middle of Pack at Penn State Spiked Shoe Event

Women's cross country team takes seventh of 16; men place 10th of 17

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams were in action Saturday at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational. The UB men placed 10th among a field of 17 teams with 264 points while the women took seventh in the 16-team race with 169 points. Host Penn State won the men's meet with 39 points while Yale, one of top programs in the country, won the women's meet with 34 points.

The meet featured just five Division I programs with the rest of the field consisting of lower division and club squads. UB used the meet as a tune-up for later-season action and rested several of its top runners. The women's race was contested at 6K while the men raced 5.2 miles.

In the women's race, UB's top finisher was senior Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) in 15th place among 201 racers. Jezorski completed the distance, an additional kilometer more than what the squad has raced thus far in 2005, in 22:34. Sophomore Aleksandra Bykowska (Poznan, Poland/Third High School in Poznan) took 31st overall in 23:03 and freshman Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) placed 35th in 23:05. Yale sophomore Lindsay Donaldson won the individual honors in 21:24.
