Koeppel Wins Second MAC Award
BUFFALO, NY University at Buffalo women's cross country athlete Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) has been named the Mid-American Conference's Women's Runner of the Week. The award was announced by the league office in Cleveland. This is Koeppel's second consecutive award as Runner of the Week. She shares this week's honor with Miami (OH) freshman Jennie Stoll. Koeppel, a 3.63 mathematics major, was also recognized as the league's Women's Scholar Athlete of the Week. Koeppel, a senior, earned her second consecutive award thanks to her first-place finish at last Saturday's Central Collegiate Invitational in Toledo, OH. Koeppel crossed the finish line of the 5K run in 17:49, finishing seven seconds ahead of Akron's Morgan Sulzener and cutting her winning time from her last meet, Akron's Tommy Evans Invitational, by more than 30 seconds. Her victory enabled the Bulls to grab the women's team title at the 11-team meet. UB scored 75 points to hold off Mid-American Conference rivals Western Michigan (83) and Akron (87) en route to a second consecutive team title after also winning the Tommy Evans Invitational on September 11. The Bulls travel to Bethlehem, PA for this Saturday's Paul Short Invitational. The meet, held
on the campus of Lehigh University, will feature a large field of over 75 high schools and colleges
from throughout the Northeast. Racing is slated to begin at 10:00 am. |
