UB Women Place Seventh in CanadaLONDON, ON After a two-week hiatus, the University at Buffalo's cross country squads headed to Canada for the 27th Annual Western International Meet hosted by Western Ontario University. UB's women's squad placed seventh among a 12-team field with 156 points. Guelph won the team scoring with 40 points. The men's race, scheduled to follow the women's race, was cancelled when heavy thuderstorms hit the course. UB was the only American school in the field. UB's Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) was the top finisher in the 5K race for the Bulls. Burrows turned in a time of 18:54 along the rain-soaked course at Thames Valley Golf Club. UB also got strong performances from Jessica Moldovan (Warren, PA/Warren Area) and Jenny Koeppel (Snyder, NY/Amherst). Moldovan was 29th in 19:50 while Koeppel ws 35th in 20:03. Debbie Buhlers of Waterloo won the individual race in 18:05 as 104 runners crossed the finish line. The Bulls will be in action at the St. Francis (Pa.) Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29. |
