Veith Leads Women’s Top Performers Sophomore Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) won the women’s 5K race in 17:48, cutting more than a minute from her time on the same course last season as a freshman. Veith was actually the second person to cross the finish line, however, the first woman was disqualified for going too far off course and Veith was declared the winner. This is Veith’s first individual cross country title in her collegiate career. Joining Veith among UB’s next finishers were junior Aleksandra Bykowska (Poznan, Poland/Third High School of Poznan) in 18:43 for fourth place and senior Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence) in 19:12 taking eighth place. Bulls Host UB Stampede Invitational The Bulls host the UB Stampede Invitational on Saturday, September 23 at Beaver Island State Park. The first race is scheduled for 11:00 am. Division I teams from Cornell, St. Bonaventure, Colgate, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Niagara will join the Bulls at the meet as well as several local non-Division I programs. Both the men’s and women’s squads won the team titles at last year’s meet, held on October 8, besting Division I foes that included Syracuse, Niagara and Robert Morris. Dan McKenna won the men’s individual title with an 8K mark of 25:59.9 while Jen Jezorski won the women’s crown in 19:03.9 on the 5K course.
