TOLEDO, OH - The seventh annual Central Collegiate Cross Country Meet was run Saturday evening with the University at Buffalo women's and men's teams posting impressive results. UB's women finished second to host Toledo while the men's squad was fifth in a field of seven schools.

In the women's race, contested at 5 kilometers, the Bulls placed three runners among the top 12 finishers while Toledo placed its five scorers among those 12 to seal the team victory. UB senior Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was the top finisher for the Bulls in 18:25 to place third overall. Toledo senior Ebba Stenback won the race in 17:51 with Ohio's Carime Reinhart second in 17:57.

Joining Jezorski among the finishers for the Bulls were sophomore Aleksanda Bykowska (Poznan, Poland/Third High School of Poznan) in fifth in 18:35 and freshman Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) in 12th place in 18:52.

In the men's race, over the 8 kilometer course at Toledo's Ottawa Park Golf Course, UB junior Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) crossed the finish line second overall. McKenna, who won last week's opening meet at Akron, finished in 25:06, just eight seconds behind individual champion Adam Frezza of Oakland University.

Rounding out the top three finishers for the Bulls were junior Andy Leonard (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) in 13th place in 25:55 and sophomore Dan Giza (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), who took 19th place in 26:18.

"McKenna ran a fantastic race on the men's side," said head coach Vicki Mitchell. "On the women's side, Jezorski and Bykowska ran super races as well."

UB's women scored 68 points to Toledo's 30. Oakland was third with 72, followed by Western Michigan (87), Ohio (123), Northern Illinois (132), Illinois-Chicago (198), Cleveland State (242) and Defiance (278). Ohio won the men's team title with 38 points. Oakland was second with 62, followed by Akron (69), Illinois-Chicago (74), Buffalo (89), Toledo (184) and Defiance (222).
