Veith, Leonard Take Top Honors at Toledo Invitational
TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo cross country squads used a strong team effort on Saturday at the Toledo Invitational meet. The UB men won the team title with a perfect 15 points as the Bulls put the top five finishers across the tape first. The UB women scored 60 points to finish second to Big Ten member Northwestern’s 49 points. Sophomore Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) won the women’s 5K race in 17:48, cutting more than a minute from her time on the same course last season as a freshman. Veith was actually the second person to cross the finish line, however, the first woman was disqualified for going too far off course and Veith was declared the winner. This is Veith’s first individual cross country title in her collegiate career. Joining Veith among UB’s next finishers were junior Aleksandra Bykowska (Poznan, Poland/Third High School of Poznan) in 18:43 and senior Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence) in 19:12.
The Bulls host the UB Stampede Invitational on Saturday, September 23 at Beaver Island State Park. The first race is scheduled for 11:00 am.
