BUFFALO, NY ­ University at Buffalo men's cross country runner Todd Ludden (Hornell, NY/Hornell) has been named as the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league has announced.

Ludden, a senior mathematics major with a 3.36 GPA, successfully defended his men's individual title at the season-opening Tommy Evans Invitational in Akron, OH. Ludden completed the four-mile course in 20:05 to cut 39 seconds off of his winning time of 20:44.10 from last season's meet. The Bulls placed third with 45 points, just four shy of team champion Ohio State's 41, in the four-team meet. Ludden was a second-team All-MAC honoree at the league championship meet in 2001.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
