SYRACUSE, NY - The University at Buffalo rowing team traveled to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon for the Syracuse Invitational, picking up a first place finish and two second place finishes on the day.

In the Varsity Four B race, UB’s Varsity four “C” boat claimed first place in 20:03. The boat, which had coxswain Alison Sheehan (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris Catholic), Lindsay DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Alana Sharpe (St. Catharines/Governor Simcoe) and Francisca Nwoke (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) defeated boats from Cornell and Syracuse. In fact, the Bulls finished more than 23 seconds ahead of the next closest boat. Buffalo also had a fifth and tenth place finish in that race.

Finishing in second place for the Bulls was their Varsity Four “A” boat, which competed in the Varsity Four A race. That boat consisted of coxswain Britt Marshall (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), Kate Garofalo (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Tara Rudkoski (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) and Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul) finished in 19:34.0, which was under three seconds behind Cornell.
