UB Rowing Completes Fall Season At Syracuse Invitational

Bulls walk away with second place in women's four B flight

SYRACUSE, NY - The University at Buffalo women's rowing squad traveled to Central New York Saturday to compete at the Syracuse Invitational at Syracuse University. The Bulls claimed a second-place showing in the women's four B flight and two top-five places in the novice eight event in a field consisting of Marist, Syracuse, UConn, and Colgate.

The day started out with the women's four A flight, crossing the finish line in a time of 21:07.86, which was good for fourth in a field of 13. The A boat consisted of coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario/West Park), Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul's), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), and Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul's).

The women's novice eight event witnessed two top-five finishes in a field of 15. The Buffalo Novice A and Buffalo Lightweight B boats crossed fourth and fifth in times of 21:02.17 and 21:18.55, respectively. The Buffalo A boat was rowed by coxswain Elaine Wong, Kate Garofalo (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Kelsey Tretter (Rochester, NY/Brighton), Francisca Nwoke (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest), Mary Karl, Jordan Talbott (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park), Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Tara Rudkoski, and Sam Masucci (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and the Buffalo B boat was rowed by coxswain Sarah McCann (Fayetteville, Fayetteville), Katie Barnum (Clifton park,. NY/Shenendehowa), Beth Gaworecki (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Diana Minardo (Webster, NY/Webster), Lauryn Brown (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Alanna Wellspeak, Rachel Chiles, Darci Smith, and Lyndsey Milcarek.

In the final race of the afternoon, the Bulls took second in the women's four B flight in a time of 22:01.55. The boat was raced by coxswain Margaret Devendorf (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Morgan Witte (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Amanda Garbacz (St. Catharines, Ontario/Dennis Morris), Jessica Hughes (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Paige Baritot (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Seminary).

Syracuse took two first-place prizes in the women's novice eight and women's four B flight, and also took second and third in the women's four A flight.

The Bulls take time to train for the upcoming spring season.
