The UB women’s rowing circuit entered a Fall season-high 10 boats in the annual Head of the Fish Regatta and came away with eight top five finishes to conclude the Fall season on a high note. First place showings in the Novice Eight+, Novice Four+, and Open Lightweight Eight+ provided many proud moments for UB, as it posted season-bests in the Novice Eight+ by over four minutes and in the Open Eight+ by over four minutes. Open Four+ Posts Top 10 Results Three UB entries raced in the Open Four+ competition in a field of over 40. The Bulls packed a punch by placing two boats in the top 10 and the other in the top 15. The first boat, placing second, was rowed by coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario/West Park SS), Natalie Pugliese (Niagara Falls, Ont./St. Paul’s), Melina Dicosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Nicki Cyr (Groton, NY/Dryden) and Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland). The sixth place UB boat consisted of Margaret Devendorf (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Chandra Hazey (Riverview, MI/Riverview), Karen Corey (Kingston, NY/Kingston), Jessica Hughes (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Emilee Norris (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga).
Coxswain Adriane Wotawa-Bergen (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Melina Dicosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Amanda MacKeigan (Brockville, Ontario/Brockville Collegiate Institute), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross HS), Morgan Witte (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Amanda Garbacz (St. Catharines, Ontario/Dennis Morris), Miranda Robinson (Otego, NY/Unatego), and Amy Eggleston led the charge in a field of 32 by placing first, while the second UB boat, consisting of coxswain Kristen Defayette (Plattsburgh, NY/Peru), Nicole Miller (Buffalo,NY/Williamsville North), Laura Sherman (Ada, MI/Forest Hills Central), Kristen Lane (Buffalo, NY/Mutch Tech), Thandiwe Price (Springfield Gardens, NY/Frank Sinatra School of the Arts), Maren Teresa Greene (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor Community HS), Kimberly Kiefer (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany), Mackenzie Brown (Tinton Falls, NJ/Academy of Allied Health and Science), and Diane Passenant (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) came in third. Novice Four+ Earn Stellar Victory Out of 22 crews, the UB Novice Four+ gained valuable minutes over their competition, placing first out of 22 teams and a whole 10 seconds ahead of second place Connecticut College. The team was rowed by Adriane Wotawa-Bergen, Nicole Miller, Amy Eggleston, Miranda Robinson, and Laura Sherman, and were among the few who had two first-place finishes in the afternoon. Next Race
UB concludes its fall season, and will resume play on March 18, where it will travel to Clemson, SC for the Clemson Challenge. Head-to-head competition will begin on April 15 against Eastern Michigan in the Harvey Cup, and then travel to Lewisburg, PA to face Colgate and Bucknell in dual competition. |
