SARATOGA, NY ­ The University at Buffalo women's crew team posted impressive results at the Head of the Fish Regatta on the Fishkill River. UB sent four boats to the competition with the Bulls taking victories in both the Novice 4 and Novice 8 races.

In the Novice 4 race, consisting of 43 entries, the UB squad of stroke seat Chandra Hazey (Riverview, MI/Riverview), third seat Lauren Dunn (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East), second seat Karen Corey (Kingston, NY/Kingston), bow seat Bonnie McVicker (Syracuse, NY/C.W. Baker) and coxswain Dawn Kavanaugh (Grand Island, NY/Nardin Academy) finished the course in 15:47. The Bulls finished five seconds faster than the second-place squad from Bowdoin (14:16).

UB sent a pair of Novice 8 boats into the water with the A squad emerging victorious in 14:16, 30 seconds faster than second-place Ithaca (14:46). The Bulls' B squad finished 10th in 15:29. The winning boat consisted of stroke seat Hazey, seventh seat McVicker, sixth seat Joanne Olsen (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), fifth seat Dunn, fourth seat Maggie Cote (Grosse Ile, MI/Grosse Ile), third seat Marla Hardin (Riverview, MI/Riverview), second seat Corey and bow seat Stephanie Spinella (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) with coxswain Kaitlin Buchheit (Amherst, NY/Amherst). Competing in the B boat were stroke seat Kathryn Vossler (Jamestown, NY/Falconer), seventh seat Emilee Norris (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), sixth seat Rachel Simson (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), fifth seat Bethany Bruce (Fulton, NY/C.W. Baker), fourth seat Georgia Maloney (Cortland, NY/Homer Central), third seat Jen Livingston (Eden, NY/Eden), second seat Michelle Heller (Fresh Meadows, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) and bow seat Katie Jones (Clarence, NY/Clarence) with Kavanaugh at coxswain. There were 44 entrants in the race.

The Bulls also posted a strong showing in the Varsity 8 race with a time of 13:56 among the 42-entrant field to place sixth overall and fourth among college-level programs. UB finished just 21 seconds behind the top collegiate team, third-place Dartmouth (13:35). Two entries representing Ontario's London Training Centre consisting of members of the Canadian National Rowing Team took the top two spots in 12:43 and 12:44. UB's entry consisted of stroke seat Victoria Kolomiets (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), seventh seat Jessica Ecke (Ridge, NY/Longwood), sixth seat Michelle Schwach (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), fifth seat Deanna Knighton (Angola, NY/Lake Shore), fourth seat Kali Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), third seat Mary Conniff (Camden, NY/Camden), second seat Tracy Clarke (Mt. Sinai, NY/Rockland (MI)) and bow seat Sara Sheffer (Ft. Edward, NY/Colonie), with Tina LaFountain (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills) at coxswain.

UB finishes the fall head race competitions with the annual Frostbite Regatta in Philadelphia on November 9.
