Crew Finishes Fall Season at Head of the Elk Regatta

The women's crew squad concluded their fall season with the Head of the Elk Regatta in Elkhart, IN. The races were held along a 2.5 mile course along the upper St. Joseph River with sunny conditions, temperatures in the 50s and a slight tailwind.

UB was entered in two events. In a field of 16 boats, the Novice Eight team started from the 12th position. The team, consisting of Jessica Ecke (Ridge, NY/Longwood), Maggie Emma, Lisa Heberger (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Gina Hayes (Flushing, NY/Townsend Harris), Michelle Lum (Rochester, NY/Brighton), Melissa Cox (Black River, NY/Carthage), Carissa Begonia (Orangeburg, NY/Tappan Zee), Colleen Robinson (Buffalo, NY/Mt. Mercy Academy) and coxswain Sarah Wold (Clifton Park, NY/Indian River) steadily moved past other entrants and finished eighth in a time of 15:41.93. Purdue placed first in 14:04.27.

UB had three squads entered in the Open Eight race. Of 27 entries, UB's A squad placed 11th in 14:19.43, the B team was 12th in 14:23.89 and the C squad was 23rd in 15:26.07. Notre Dame's A team won the race in 13:27.7.

The team will spend the winter training for their spring season.
