Youth Eights Claim Seventh

After observing much of the rowing world compete in the Head Of The Charles Saturday, UB sent one Youth Eight boat into the waters of the Charles and came away with a seventh-place finish, crossing the finish line at a time of 20:17.337. The squad beat out a field of 57 to claim top 10 honors. Princton University rowed away with first-place, contributing to the Tigers’ three squads that finished in the top five. The Youth Eight boats consisted of coxswain Adriane Wotawa-Bergen (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Melina Dicosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Morgan Witte (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross HS), Miranda Robinson (Otego, NY/Unatego), Laura Sherman (Ada, MI/Forest Hills Central), Nicole Miller (Buffalo,NY/Williamsville North) and Amanda MacKeigan (Brockville, Ontario/Brockville Collegiate Institute).

Championship Eight Finish Strong

Out of 57 crews, the UB women’s rowing team were given a guarenteed entry in the Championship Eight because the boat has finished in the top five percent in the collegiate eight last year., finishing fourth out of 50 entries in last year’s race. This year, Championship Eight pulled away with a less than spectacular 36th of 47. The Championship Eight boat, consisting of Sher BriggsThis year, the Championship Eight finished a respectable 36th out of 47 Sunday, pulling away from notable schools such as Radcliffe and West Virginia with an overall time of 18:34.603. Princeton University took home top honors with a 16:34.633 adjusted time, as they placed first in the event, as well as two of the remaining top five. The Championship Eight boat was rowed by coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario/West Park SS), Natalie Pugliese (Niagara Falls, Ont./St. Paul’s), Emilee Norris (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), Nicki Cyr (Groton, NY/Dryden), Paige Baritot (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Amanda Garbacz (St. Catharines, Ontario/Dennis Morris), Chandra Hazey (Riverview, MI/Riverview), and Jill Harclerode (Portland, OR/Westview), finished ahead of strong rowing schools Radcliffe and West Virginia with a time of 18:34.650.

Next Race

UB enters its last race of the Fall season, as it heads to Saratoga Spring, NY to compete in the Head of the Fish on Oct. 29.
