UB Crew Squads Race Strong in Rochester

The Varsity 4 boat of Caitlin Logue (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), Jessica Barrel (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), Amy Aldridge (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Margaret Cote with coxswain Tina LaFountain (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) raced to a fourth-place finish, turning in a 20:46.27 clocking in the morning race and a 6:00.91 in the afternoon race. With the afternoon race time weighted, the Bulls' combined championship time was 38:49.00. To arrive at the weighted time, the afternoon race time is multiplied by three. The weighted time and the morning times are then added together to arrive at the championship time. Queens took the overall championship with a 36:46.20 combined showing.

UB had two entrants in the Open 8 race with the squads finishing fifth and 12th overall among 26 entries. Against the 22 college level entries in the race, UB was third and ninth. The A-team entry of Jessica Ecke (Brookhaven, NY/Longwood), Tracy Clarke (Mt. Sinai, NY/Rockford (MI)), Sara Sheffer (Ft. Edward, NY/Colonie), Kali Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), Deanna Knighton (Angola, NY/Lake Shore), Kasey Hansen (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Tara Celestini (St. Catharines, ON/Sir Winston Churchill) and Victoria Kolomiets (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) with coxswain Katie Johnson (Kenmore, NY/Holy Angels) turned in an overall time of 33:36.67. The time was 12 seconds behind RIT and Williams, who took the first two college positions in 33:24.29 and 33:24.75, respectively. Open entries from Harvard (31:55.29) and Syracuse (32:18.17) took the top two spots.

The Bulls face another stiff test this weekend at the nationally-recognized Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston on Saturday.
