ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The UB women's rowing teams competed in the Stonehurst Regatta on Sunday in a field consisting of some of the sport's toughest squads in the nation. The Bulls posted top 10 results in each of the three races the team entered. Schools like Syracuse and Harvard, both of which competed in the NCAA Championship last year, were among the tough competition going up against the Bulls in the Regatta.

In Women's Open Four, the Bulls finished strong with a 10th-place finish in a field of 20 teams with a time of 40:13.51. Brock University upended Western Ontario to take a first-place finish with a time of 36:37.15. The UB Open Four squad consisted of coxswain Kaitlin Buchheit (Amherst, NY/Amherst), Caitlin Hambridge (Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy), Beth Gaworecki (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Morgan Witte (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), and Katie Barnum (Clifton Park, NY/Shenedehowa).

The Women's Varsity Eight competition matched two UB squads up in a field of 30. Western Ontario beat out Williams College for top honors with a time of 32:18.19, while the two UB boats out-lengthed 20 other teams, as they placed eighth and ninth within five seconds of each other. In the boat for the eighth-place Bulls were coxswain Margaret Devendorf (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Chandra Hazey (Riverview, MI/Riverview), Emilee Norris (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), Amanda Mackeigan (Brockville, Ontario/Brockville Collegiate Institute), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross HS), Jessica Hughes (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Amanda Garbacz (St. Catharines, Ontario/Dennis Morris), Maggie Fairgrieve (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic), and Bonnie McVicker (Syracuse, NY/C.W. Baker).

The ninth-place boat consisted of coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario/West Park SS), Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), Nicki Cyr (Groton, NY/Dryden), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Melina Dicosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Paige Baritot (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Jill Harclerode (Portland, OR/Westview), Natalie Pugliese (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul's), and Karen Corey (Kingston, NY/Kingston).

Last year, UB represented two squads in the Varsity Eight and finished third and 19th, while the Varsity Four placed fifth out of a 17-team field.

The rowers see their next competition on Sat.-Sun., Oct. 22-23, when they travel to Boston, Mass. to partake in the Head of the Charles.
