Bulls Compete At Head of the Welland

UB heads north for first race of the year

WELLAND, ONTARIO – The University at Buffalo rowing team began the 2008-09 season by heading across the border to compete at the Head of the Welland Regatta. Numerous American boats competed in the race.

The Bulls had four boats in the Open Four race claiming the third, fourth, fifth and seventh spots in the race. The boat that finished third consisted of coxswain Alison Sheehan, Melina DiCosimo, Amanda Garbacz, Francisca Nwoke and Alan Sharpe as they finished the race in 19:12.38, which was just under a minute behind Clemson, who won the race. The boat that finished fourth consisted of coxswain Kate Evely, Sam Masucci, Lindsay DiCosimo, Megan Bayley and Ewelina Kotowska. That boat finished the race in 19:49.75. 10 boats in all competed in that race.

The Bulls also had one boat in the Open Eight race, finishing second of seven boats behind Clemson. That boat consisted of Evely, who was the coxswain, Sasha Bailey, Lauren Sexton, Bridgette Yannes, Ashley Hanhurt, Brittany Ronald, Morgan Witte, Tara Rudkowski and Cathleen Streicher.

The Bulls will be back in action on Oct. 12 as they compete at the Head of the Genesee.
