BUFFALO, NY – Coming off a strong performance last weekend at the ECAC Metro Cup Championships, the University at Buffalo rowing team heads to the 70th Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, held on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA. Over 100 colleges and universities will be traveling to the City of Brotherly Love for the annual competition. UB enters Dad Vail as the fourth seed and will have five crews competing: the Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight, the Lightweight Eight, the Varsity Four and the Novice Four.

The Bulls Varsity Eight Boat, led by coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario/West Park), has had a very strong spring season. At the ECAC Metro Cup, the Varsity Eight boat took second place, finishing just over three seconds behind Bucknell. The Varsity Eight also won the Harvey Cup for the third consecutive year, defeating Eastern Michigan by more than 20 seconds. The Varsity Eight also recorded their best ever finish at the Knecht Cup, finishing second, and took third at the San Diego Crew Classic.

Joining Briggs in the Varsity Eight boat for the Dad Vail Regatta will be rowers Tara Rudkoski (Merrick, NY/Calhoun), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Brittany Aiello (Lancaster, NY/Clarence), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Kelsey Tretter (Rochester, NY/Brighton), Alana Sharpe (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe) and Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy).

Last year, Buffalo had four crews record top ten finishes at the Dad Vail Regatta, led by a first-place finish for the Second Varsity Eight. Also finishing in the top ten were the Lightweight Eight (third), Varsity Eight (seventh) and Novice Eight (ninth). In addition, the Varsity Four had a strong showing at Dad Vail last season, finishing 12th out of 51 teams.

"We're very excited because we did well last weekend at the Metro Cup and we feel that this weekend we have a really good chance," DiCosimo said. "We are really excited and we are going out to win."

The Dad Vail Regatta begins on Friday, May 9 and concludes on Saturday, May 10.
