UB Crew Captures Gold and BronzeBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's crews had several impressive performances at the New York State Championships held on Delta Lake in Rome, NY this past weekend. The novice four comprised of Molly Beck (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Melissa Warhol (Buffalo, NY/Nardin), Sarah Vieira (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Diocesan), Victoria Kolomiets (Albany, NY/Guilderland) and coxswain Tina LaFountain (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) won by two lengths to capture a gold medal out of a field of four. The heavyweight four including Adrien Walker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute), Sarah Giardenelli (Esperence, NY/Duanesburg), Jen McCarthy (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield Central), Allison Wutz and coxswain Cindy Forte (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) placed third out of five boats and took home the bronze. The lightweight eight also competed but did not make it to the finals after the lightweight event was cancelled and the crew was forced to compete in the heavyweight qualifying heats. All three crews will travel to Philadephia to take part in the prestigious
Dad Vail Regatta next weekend to compete against the best schools from the
East, Midwest, and South. |
