WORCESTER, MA – The University at Buffalo rowing team competed with some of the best crews in the country and finished in a tie for second at this season’s ECAC Metro Championship. The Bulls finished second to Bucknell, the Patriot League champion, and finished second with UMass and Rhode Island, the winner and runner-up in the Atlantic 10, respectively. UB had 56 points, while Bucknell had 74. Having never finished in the top four prior to last season, the Bulls have now finished second in consecutive years.

The novice eight boat, who was ranked third coming into the race, finished first of seven boats with a time of 7:01.738. The boat was raced by coxswain Britt Marshall (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), stroke-seat Kate Garofalo (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), seven-seat Samantha Masucci (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), six-seat Stephanie Papaj (Kenmore, NY/Nardin Academy), five-seat Mary Karl (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown), four-seat Lauren Schifferle (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), three-seat Francisca Nwoke (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest), two-seat Emily Garvey (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and bow-seat Jordan Talbott (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) and took home the gold medal by nearly two seconds.

After finishing second in their heat with a time of 6:56.922, the second varsity eight finished second in the final at a time of 6:51.991, just behind Bucknell. The varsity four team finished third in their final with a time of 7:41.503 and the varsity eight boat finished fifth at 6:42.764.
