LEWISBURG, PA – The University at Buffalo rowing squad fell to Patriot League opponents Bucknell and Colgate Saturday after coming up short in each of the five events scheduled at Bucknell's Shamokim Dam, one year after sweeping both teams in the same meet. The Varsity 8+ took second place in the day's final race.

Bucknell fell short of both UB and Colgate in the Varsity 8+ after taking first in each of the four previous events. Colgate took first in a time of 8:25.38, followed by the UB eight boat of coxswain Sheralyn Briggs (St. Catharines, Ont./West Park), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, NY/St Paul), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ont./St. Paul), Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Paige Baritot (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Amanda Garbacz (St. Catharines, Ont./Dennis Morris), Natalie Pugliese (Niagara Falls, Ont./St. Paul), and Emilee Norris (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), who crossed the finish in 8:36.31.

In the first event of the afternoon, the Novice Eight boat pulled a third-place finish in a time of 9:49.89. Immediately following the novice eight race was the Second Varsity Four. In the two-boat event, Bucknell pulled away from Buffalo by a time of 10:15.75. UB's 10:19.93 was four seconds off Bucknell, and the closest that the Bulls would finish on the day.

Buffalo competed in the Varsity Four with Bucknell taking its third top finish in as many races. UB came away with a second-place finish in a time of 10:23.80.

With Buffalo featuring its Second Varsity Eight and Lightweight boats in the Second Varsity Eight race, Bucknell crossed the finish line first again, as Buffalo came away with third and fourth-place finishes respectively in times of 8:59.49 and 9:40.51.

The rowing squad takes a break from action before entering the month of May with the Metro Championships on May 7 in Worchester, MA. Last season, the Bulls faired well in two events after being halted by poor weather conditions, stitching together a first-place finish in the Novice 8+ and a fourth-place finish in the Varsity 8+.
