Varsity Eight Claims Harvey Cup As Bulls Win Ten Races

The Varsity Eight boat won both of its races on the day as it defeated EMU in the Harvey Cup race by nearly 20 seconds. The Varsity Eight boat, which consisted of Sher Briggs (St. Catherines, Ontario, West Park), Tara Rudkoski (Merrick, NY/Calhoun), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Alana Sharpe (St. Catherines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe), Brittany Aiello (Lancaster, NY/Clarence), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul) and Kelsey Tretter (Rochester, NY/Brighton) clocked in at 6:33.02 against the Eagles and then defeated UConn in the final race of the day as they clocked in at 6:33.61, just a little over two seconds ahead of the Huskies.

The day started off as UB’s Novice Eight boat and Varsity Four boat both claimed wins in their only races of the day. The Novice Eight boat clocked in at 7:04.97 as UConn finished behind them at 7:09.41. The Varsity Four boat came in at 7:36.51, which was over 10 seconds faster than UConn.

UB’s Second Varsity Eight picked up wins in both of its races, defeating EMU by 30 seconds as the Bulls clocked in at 6:44.43 That boat, which consisted of Margaret Devendorf (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Maggie Fairgrieve (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lake Shore Catholic), Jessica Hughes (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Morgan Witte (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Sasha Bailey (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), Lindsay DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Francisca Nwoke (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest), Samantha Masucci (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Amanda Garbacz (St. Catherines, Ontario/Dennis Morris) then defeated UConn by over 15 seconds, coming in at a time of 6:36.98. UB’s Lightweight Eight boat raced with the Varsity crews and fell in its first race to UConn’s Second Varsity Eight crew by 16 seconds. However, the boat came back and defeated Eastern Michigan’s Second Varsity Eight by 20 seconds, clocking in at 6:59.55.

UB’s Lightweight Four also picked up a win in its only race as it took on UConn’s Novice Four B squad. UB came in at 7:46.72, which was a little over 13 seconds ahead of UConn. UB’s Novice Four boat picked up a pair of wins as it defeated EMU by 30 seconds, clocking in at 7:53.15 and then defeating Colgate by more than 12 seconds, with a time of 7:45.01.

The Bulls will be off for a week before they head to the ECAC Metro Championships on Saturday, May 3.
