Lightweight Eight Crew Receives National Ranking
USRowing is a nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. Buffalo first plunged onto the national scene in USRowing's second poll of the year last season in the program's inaugural year. With a ranking of 12, the squad's success propelled them as high as 10th behind such national perennials as Harvard Radcliffe, Princeton and Wisconsin. At last weekend's Knecht Cup, the squad finished fifth behind four of the top five crews in the country including Wisconsin (top-ranked), Georgetown (fourth-ranked), and two Radcliffe squads (fifth-ranked). "I am very excited and proud of the lightweights for being ranked in the top ten of Lightweight Womens Eights," lightweight coach Elizabeth Ostermeier said. "It was our team goal this year to break into the top ten for the first time. It is quite encouraging for the UB rowing program as a whole." The lightweights as well as the rest of the UB Rowing squad travel to Syracuse for quad-meet competition with Colgate, UConn and Eastern Michigan. The Varsity Eight squads from UB and EMU will compete for the Harvey Cup, which the Bulls won for the first time ever last season. The meet is set to start at 9 a.m.
Not Ranked But Receiving Votes: University of California 28, Marist College 20, Temple University 14, Long Beach State 12, Pacific Lutheran University 8, and University of Tulsa 7. |
