CAMDEN, NJ The University at Buffalo's Novice 4 team brought home the first Knecht Cup title in school history on Sunday to highlight the weekend races on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.

UB's Novice 4 squad, consisting of coxswain Margaret Devendorf (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), stroke seat Jackie Stone (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham), third seat Beth Gaworecki (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), second seat Devin Broadwell (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and bow seat Crystal Byrnes (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs), finished first among 30 overall entries in the two-day competition. The Bulls easily won the title with an eight-second win over Kansas in the Grand Final. UB finished in 8:07.6. They also won heat and semifinal races on Saturday to move into Sunday's final.

The Novice 8 team scored a third-place overall finish in the Grand Final as 28 crews entered the competition. UB turned in a 7:04.4 clocking in the Grand Final, finishing behind only the Princeton lightweights (6:58.2) and George Washington (6:59.2). UB won its opening heat by 21 seconds over Delaware, who later took the Petite Final, and was second to George Washington in the semifinals by less than two seconds. The UB entry included Devendorf at coxswain, stroke seat Maggie Fairgrieve (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic), seventh seat Paige Baritot (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Seminary), sixth seat Mia Pavletic (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Central), fifth seat Nicole Cyr (Groton, NY/Dryden), fourth seat Jill Harclerode (Portland, OR/Westview), Stone in the third seat, second seat Jessica Hughes (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and bow seat Darcie Bryant (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker). Devendorf and Stone turned out to the workhorses in the UB lineup as they were also part of the Novice 4 team, which meant they competed in heats and semifinals of both races on Saturday.
