Bulls Complete Stellar Performance At Knecht Cup

Varsity Eight places second at the event

CAMDEN, NJ – The University at Buffalo rowing squad completed one of its finest weekends in the programs history sending six boats into the grand finals at the Knecht Cup. Two boats received medals for the Bulls as the Varsity Eight boat placed second, while the Lightweight Four boat placed third.

The Varsity Eight boat which consists of Sher Briggs (St. Catherines, Ontario, West Park), Tara Rudkoski (Merrick, NY/Calhoun), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Alana Sharpe (St. Catherines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe), Brittany Aiello (Lancaster, NY/Clarence), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul) and Kelsey Tretter (Rochester, NY/Brighton) placed second as it finished at 6:44.0, which was just a little over eight seconds behind Bucknell. The second place finish was UB’s best at the event.

The Lightweight Four squad of coxswain Sarah McCann (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), Andrea Patterson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls), Jessica Lau (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn), Gina Giammichele (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and Maureen Jones (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) finished in third place at 8:06.4, which was behind just Pittsburgh and Tulsa.

UB’s Novice Four boat finished in fourth place in its final, while UB’s Varsity Four boat finished in sixth in the grand final. The Second Varsity Eight boat finished in fourth in its grand final, while the Lightweight Eight boat finished in third in the petite final. Buffalo’s Second Varsity Four boat also finished in the fourth place in the final.

The Bulls will be back in action as they host Colgate, Connecticut and Eastern Michigan in their lone home meet of the year. The action, which will take place on the Tonawanda Creek, begins at 8:00 am.
