Crew Squads Face Stiff Competition

UB's novice team places third; varsity team fourth along the Charles River

BOSTON, MA - The historic Charles River served as the setting for the University at Buffalo's crew competition against three other teams on Saturday afternoon in Boston. Fair weather, but cold temperatures of about 35 degrees at race time, along with variable winds greeted the rowers. Competing against the Bulls were squads from Dartmouth, Boston College and the host school, Northeastern.

UB's novice eight team placed third in a time of 7:31.4, well behind the top two finishers, Dartmouth (7:12.9) and Northeastern (7:14.2). The Bulls did finish twenty seconds ahead of fourth place Boston College in the four team race. UB's entry consisted of coxswain Randi Prusak (Attica, NY/Attica), stroke seat Michelle Schwach (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), seventh seat Lavoya Reddish (Queens, NY/Hillcrest), sixth seat Kasey Hansen (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), fifth seat Amy Aldridge (Penfield, NY/Penfield), fourth seat Deanna Knighton (Angola, NY/Lake Shore), third seat Melissa Ward (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), second seat Jessica Roman (Spencer, NY/Spencer-Van Etten) and bow seat Sara Sullivan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East).

The Bulls' varsity eight squad placed fourth among the four teams in 7:23.6. Northeastern won the race in 6:57.4, followed by Boston College (7:01.2) and Dartmouth (7:08.7). UB's entry consisted of coxswain Katie Johnson (Kenmore, NY/Holy Angels), stroke seat Kali Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), seventh seat Melissa Warhol (Orchard Park, NY/Nardin Academy), sixth seat Mary Conniff (Camden, NY/Camden), fifth seat Tara Celestini (St. Catharines, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill), fourth seat Sarah Vieira (Pompton Lakes, NJ/DePaul Diocesan), third seat Tracy Clarke (Mt. Sinai, NY/Rockford (MI)), second seat Karey Smollar (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) and bow seat Victoria Kolomiets (Guilerland, NY/Guilderland).
