UB Takes Three vs. Rhode Island, Radcliffe

Second varsity eight and both novice squads emerge victorious from tri-meet

BOSTON, MA A day after facing fierce competition from Northeastern, Dartmouth and Boston College, the University at Buffalo crew squads took to the Charles River again emerging with three wins against squads from Rhode Island and Radcliffe. The second varsity eight team as well as both novice eight squads won their races while the first varisty eight team fell to Rhode Island by a second and the varsity four crew placed second in a three-team race.

UB's second varsity eight team cruised to an easy victory over Rhode Island. The Bulls completed the 2,000-meter course in 7:25.2 while the Rams posted a 7:32.7 clocking. The UB entry consisted of Chandra Hazey (Riverview, MI/Riverview) in the stroke seat, Jessica Ecke (Ridge, NY/Longwood) in the seventh seat, Tracy Clarke (Mt. Sinai, NY/Rockford (MI)) in the sixth seat, Sara Sheffer (Ft. Edward, NY/Colonie) in the fifth seat, Amy Aldridge (Penfield, NY/Penfield) in the fourth seat, Kristin Bender (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) in the third seat, Karen Corey (Kingston, NY/Kingston) in the second seat, Stephanie Spinella (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) in the bow seat and coxswain Caitlin Logue (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy).

In the first novice eight competition, the Bulls crossed the finish line in 7:12.1 while Rhode Island finished in 7:14.2. UB's entry consisted of Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) in the stroke seat, Crysten Rushmore (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) in the seventh seat, Andrea Lysiuk (St. Catharines, Ontario/Holy Cross SS) in the sixth seat, Marissa Ammendola (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) in the fifth seat, Elizabeth McMahon (West Seneca, NY/Nardin Academy) in the fourth seat, Lindsay Rodgers (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) in the third seat, Caitlin Hambridge (Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) in the second seat, Ginelle Michael (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) in the bow seat and coxswain Abbie Potts (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg).

The second novice eight team raced both Rhode Island and Radcliffe, Harvard's women's college. The Bulls finished in 7:48.8 with Radcliffe's novice lightweight team about a second behind at 7:50.0. Rhode Island was third in 8:15.1. It was the first time in UB history that a Bulls' crew had defeated a team from Harvard or Radcliffe. The UB entry included Katy Noviello (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) in the stroke seat, Samantha Atlas (Rockville Center, NY/South Side) in the seventh seat, Katherine Laub (Batavia, NY/Batavia) in the sixth seat, Caitlyn Lewis (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) in the fifth seat, Rachel Albert (St. Louis, MO/Parkway Central) in the fourth seat, Anna Cross (Selkirk, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) in the third seat, Jacquie Zehler (Alden, NY/Attica) in the second seat, Katie Barnum (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) in the bow seat and coxswain Jessica Buchheit (Amherst, NY/Amherst).

Radcliffe exacted some revenge on UB in the varsity four race. The Radcliffe lightweight team defeated the Bulls by six seconds. Radcliffe posted an 8:05.00 finish to UB's 8:11.6. Rhode Island was third in 8:28.0. UB's boat included stroke seat Emilee Norris (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), third seat Joanne Olsen (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), second seat Jessica Barrell (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), bow seat Bonnie McVicker (Syracuse, NY/C.W. Baker) and coxswain Kaitlin Buchheit (Amherst, NY/Amherst).

The first varsity eight race turned out to be the closest finish of the day. In the two team race, Rhode Island's entry raced to a 7:10.5 clocking with the Bulls finishing in 7:11.4, a difference of 1.1 seconds. The Bulls' entry included Sandra Kisil (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale SS) in the bow seat, Kali Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) in the seventh seat, Kasey Hansen (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) in the sixth seat, Deanna Knighton (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) in the fifth seat, Michelle Schwach (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy) in the fourth seat, Kat Vossler (Jamestown, NY/Falconer) in the third seat, Mary Conniff (Camden, NY/Camden) in the second seat, Tara Celestini (St. Catharines, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) in the bow seat and coxswain Katie Johnson (Kenmore, NY/Holy Angels Academy).
