Varsity Eight Defeats Boston College

Bulls compete in two races at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing team took its Varsity Eight boat to Onondaga Lake for a pair of races this past weekend. The Bulls defeated Boston College and lost a close race against Boston University as both races were a distance of 2,000 meters.

Against Boston College, the Bulls clocked in at 7:18.4, which was almost 19 seconds faster than Boston College’s time of 7:37.3. In the second race against Boston University, the Bulls finished less than nine second behind the Terriers as Boston University finished at 7:28.4. UB clocked in at 7:37.8.

For the races, the Varsity Eight boat consisted of coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario/West Park), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Tara Rudkowski (Merrick, NY/Calhoun), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Alana Sharpe (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe), Brittany Aiello (Lancaster, NY/Clarence), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Maggie Fairgrieve (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lake Shore Catholic).

The Bulls return to action this upcoming weekend as the Varsity Eight boat heads to the San Diego Crew Classic. The rest of the squad heads to Bucknell.
